The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers Authority, Professor Ransford Gyampo, has addressed recent reports alleging that shipping lines operating in Ghana have imposed emergency surcharge fees.
According to Professor Gyampo, shipping lines, as owners of the vessels, issue their own charges, while the Ghana Shippers Authority regulates local charges applied by these lines.
He clarified that the authority has not been officially informed about any “Emergency Conflict Surcharge” imposed by shipping lines.

“However, we saw a complaint about this on social media just last night, and as CEO, I have not slept throughout the night,” he said.
Professor Gyampo confirmed that he has reached out to the complainant, requested the necessary documentary evidence, and as of this morning, has initiated an investigation to address the matter.
He emphasised that the Ghana Shippers Authority has not imposed or collected any such surcharge.
The CEO reassured stakeholders that the authority is committed to ensuring transparency and accountability in the shipping industry and will take necessary steps once the investigation is concluded.
