Ghana Private Road Transport Union To Get Tough With Indisciplined Drivers' Mates

Kumasi,(Ashanti Region) 29, Sept. The Ashanti Regional Secretariat of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has warned of stern disciplinary action against insolent drivers' mates. The warning comes at a time the Secretariat is inundated with complaints of rudeness, verbal attacks and in some cases, physical assault on passengers by mates. Nana Yaw Owusu, acting Ashanti Regional Chairman of the GPRTU, told a meeting with a cross section of 'trotro drivers' mates in Kumasi that the Union would no longer ''compromise on rules of acceptable behaviour''. "It is important that you show respect and good human relations in the discharge of your duties", the acting Chairman added. Nana Owusu was also critical about reports of overloading of vehicles and charging of unapproved fares. He called on them to dress neatly and urged the police and GPRTU guards to prosecute mates who overload their vehicles.
