Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority Boss Visits Freetown

The Director General of Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority,(SLPA) Mr. Ben Owusu Mensah has called for co-operation among ports in the ECOWAS sub-region for accelerated advancement in the region.

Mr. Owusu Mensah who is leading a five member delegation of GPHA to Sierra Leone made this appeal today when he paid a courtesy call on His Excellency Dr. Alhaji Ahmad Tejan Kabbah, President of the Republic of Sierra Leone.

The visit which was facilitated by the Ghana High Commission in Freetown and the Sierra Leone High Commission in Ghana seeks to bring the port authorities of Ghana and Sierra Leone together.

Mr. Owusu-Mensah said that ports can be a mirror of productivity in any country. According to him the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority has in the last few years pursued a successful private participation programme in the operations of Ghana's ports which has a become a model of excellence.

He said GHPA was prepared in the spirit of ECOWAS co-operation to share its experience with the Sierra Leone Port Authority.

President Kabbah in his welcome ramarks thanked Mr. Owusu Mensah and his delegation for the mission adding that the success of GHPA was commendable.

President Kabbah who has pledged to make the Freetown port a vibrant part of the economic renaissance of Sierra Leone in a key address on port rehabilitation in the country had cited the success of the Tema port as a model for emulation.

President Kabbah stressed co-operation between African countries was important adding that under the leadership of President Kabbah of ECOWAS such co-operation was on the rise.

The delegation was accompanied by Ghana's High Commissioner to Sierra leone, Kabral Blay-Amihere and Sierra Leone's High Commissioner to Ghana, Allie Bangura.
