Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has signalled that the government is actively working with Nigerian authorities to ease recent tensions surrounding the rumoured creation of an ‘Igbo Kingdom’ in Ghana's Ningo Prampram area.

The controversy began with speculation that 50 acres of land were being set aside for this purpose, leading to public concern and intense debate online and within local communities.

However, the leader of the Igbo community in Ghana, Eze Jude Chukwudi Ihenetu, has publicly denied these claims, terming them as false and misleading.

Following a meeting with a Nigerian delegation, Ablakwa stressed that the government is dedicated to preventing any conflict that could threaten the peaceful relationship between Ghana and Nigeria.

In a report by citinewsroom.com on July 31, Ablakwa referenced the 1983 ‘Ghana Must Go’ event, where over a million Ghanaians were expelled from Nigeria.

"We are conscious of that history, which should guide all of us," Ablakwa said.

He emphasised the importance of managing these issues carefully to avoid repeating past conflicts.

He called for dialogue, compassion, and historical awareness, reminding everyone that Nigerians and Ghanaians are one people.

Ablakwa added that by reiterating Ghana's commitment to its strong relationship with Nigeria, he is calling on citizens and leaders from both nations to avoid inflammatory language and focus on mutual respect and cooperation.
