Ghana Navy receives rescue boats from Red Cross

Tema, Dec. 11, GNA - The Ghana Navy, on Friday received six new speedboa= ts with complete accessories from Ghana Red Cross, to facilitate its rescue mission in the country. The accessories included six Yamaha outboard motors, life jackets, life lines, first aid equipment and maintenance tools.

Professor Kwabena Mante Bosompem, President of the Ghana Red Cross, who presented the items said they were donated by the Norwegian Red Cross, to=

assist in humanitarian work and rescue operations.

He said the gift was part of the vision of the Red Cross to strength= en partnership with stakeholders to manage and prevent disasters as well as the rescue victims.

Prof Bosompem said the gesture would also show a strong sign to the worl= d that Ghana was well prepared in its own capacity, to handle major disaste= rs such as floods, capsizing of boats and ships on water bodies.

He appealed to the Navy to train and add on to its rescue teams, community representatives to help in disaster prevention, management and rescue. Commodore Albert Addison, Flag Officer Commanding the Eastern Naval Base=

who received the items, thanked the Red Cross for the gesture. He said the presentation of the rescue equipment would assist the Navy detachment team deployed to the Volta Lake to be well equipped to dischar= ge their duties effectively.
