The Ghana Navy has intercepted and detained 10 stowaways aboard the Panamanian-flagged merchant ship, Grand Venus, off the coast of Tema.
In a Facebook statement on Monday, November 3, 2025, the Navy announced that the arrest occurred on Friday, October 31, 2025, approximately eight nautical miles southeast of Tema, following a distress call from the vessel.
“The Ghana Navy arrested ten stowaways on board the Panamanian-flagged Merchant Vessel Grand Venus, eight nautical miles southeast of Tema, on Friday, October 31, 2025, following a distress call,” the post stated.

According to the statement, initial investigations revealed that all 10 individuals, who are Nigerian nationals, had secretly boarded the Grand Venus while it was docked at Lagos Port in Nigeria.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the stowaways, all Nigerian nationals, sneaked into the vessel while it was docked at Lagos Port, Nigeria,” the statement said.
The vessel, along with the stowaways, was escorted to the main harbor and handed over to the appropriate authorities, including Port Control, Ghana Immigration Service, and the Marine Police, for further investigation.
The Ghana Navy further assured the public of its continued commitment to protecting the country’s maritime space.
“The Ghana Navy wishes to assure the general public that additional details will be communicated as the investigation progresses,” the post concluded.
