Ghana Marks Worldbook And Copy Right Day

This years marks the fifteenth world book and copy right international day and is celebrated throughout the world withe support of the UNESCO who has set the 23 day of april as the day for the celebrations annually.

In her address this morning in ghana to mark the day the director general of UNESCO,MS IRINA BOKOVA,she said that 759 million people in the world can niether read nor write , of which two thirds are women, and called on the freedom of circulation, which is an essential requirement for every one to have access to books.

According to MS BOKOVA there can be no book development without respect to copy right which brings about changes in design, production and access to contents of books, and call on communities and UNESCO networks to join forces to promote respect or copyright. The president of the Ghana book publishing associationassociation MR ASARE KONADU YAMOAH, also in his address called on ghanaians to embrace reading and LEARNING OF OUR OWN LITERATURE and promote ghanaian books .He said this will make ghanaian writers and authors get inspiration that will encourae them to write more and contribute to the enhancement of the industry.. MR YAMOAH was disturbed and added that there are much more challenges left to surmont on, in spite of the successes ghana has achieved to educate and create literacy citizenry.
