Ghana Life Insurance donates to Agona West Directorate of GES

Agona Swedru, Oct. 4, GNA - Mr Isaac Amonoo, Acting Agona West Municipal Director of Ghana Education Service (GES), has appealed to corporate bodies, financial institutions and non-governmental organizations to assist to rehabilitate the GES office that was destroyed following the floods at Agona Swedru and Agona Nyakrom on June 20.

He said the offices of the GES were submerged during the flood and had made it difficult for the workers to cope with the volume of work. Mr Amonoo made the appeal when the Ghana Life Insurance Company presented 21 inch colour television set to the directorate at a ceremony at Agona Swedru.

On June 20, 2010, Agona Swedru and Agona Nyakrom were flooded following a heavy downpour that destroyed several properties and rendered over 12,200 people in the municipality homeless. He said files, computers and other equipment were destroyed and the situation had compelled some of the workers to work on the veranda and corridors of the office.

Mr Amonoo thanked the donor for the kind gesture and asked other corporate bodies to come to the aid of the directorate to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.

Mr Ben Amuakwa, Swedru Agency Manager of the Ghana Life Insurance, said the Company had rolled out many products and urged the teachers to patronize them to ensure a comfortable live after retirement. He said the donation followed a petition sent to the company by the GES Directorate and therefore decided to assist. Mr Segu Oluwafemi, Chief Operations Manager of the Ghana Life Insurance said the company was planning to come out with another package to help the directorate.

He said Ghana Life was a partner of Ghana Education Service in the areas of sports and other developmental programmes and pledged to ensure that GES thrived to enhance effective teaching and learning at all levels.
