Ghana Justice: Three years for stealing mobile phone

Kumasi, Dec. 8, GNA - A Kumasi Circuit Court has sentenced a 19 year-old unemployed to three years imprisonment in hard labour for stealing a cellular phone.

Emmanuel Owusu pleaded guilty to unlawful entry and stealing.

Police Chief Inspector Isaac Mensah-Appenteng told the Court presided over by Justice William Boampong that the complainant, Eric Sali, is a driver, working with one of the financial institutions in Kumasi.

His routine is to pick the Manager early in the morning to the office.

On December 1, at about 0600 hours, he parked the vehicle in front of the Manager’s Dichemso residence, left the engine running and entered the house.

The prosecution said all of a sudden, Sali heard the engine stopped running and rushed outside only to see Owusu coming out of the vehicle.

He managed to arrest and handed him over to the Police at Asawasi.

A search conducted on him at the Police station uncovered Sali’s cellular phone which he had stolen from the vehicle.

He confessed to the crime in his caution statement.
