Ghana Hosts Piracy Confab

Ghana will from today host a three-day conference to promote ?Sub-Regional Co-operation for combating Piracy and Armed Robbery Against Ships?.

A release issued in Accra and signed by the acting Shipping Commissioner, Mr. I. P. Azuma, said it is being organized by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) in collaboration with the Ministry of Roads and Transport and the Maritime Organisation for West and Central Africa.

It said the main objective of the conference is to develop a framework for the co-operation to tackle the piracy problem in the sub-region as well as address issues towards the implementation of the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code which was adopted following the September 11, attack on the U.S.A.

According to the release, participants are expected from Angola, Cameroun, Congo, Cote d?Ivoire, Gabon, Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal and Sierra Leone.
