Ghana Expo 2003 Is A Good Concept - Asantehene

The Asantehene Otumfour Osei Tutu has described the just ended Ghana Expo 2003 as a very noble concept which when sustained can help the country to achieve its target of middle income status.

He observed that the nation needs such more pragmatic and bold initiatives from individuals and organisations to enable it succeed in its socio-economic endeavours

Otumfour Osei Tutu made these remarks when the organisers of Expo Africa, organisers of the event called on him at his private residence at Wimbledon, London to thank him for accepting their invitation to grace the event. Ghana Expo 2003 ended at the Alexandra Palace in London, at the weekend with a colourful durbar of Ghana chiefs, government officials, members of the diplomatic corps as well as the general public.

The fair brought together more than 500 companies mainly from Ghana and some parts of Europe.

He said the time has come for citizens of Ghana to assist the government in promoting its economic agenda, adding that this is all about the private sector initiative of the government.

The king of Ashanti urged the organisers not to be discouraged by the negative press reports about the event but accept their mistakes and learn useful lessons and improve upon their performance.

He acknowledged that there would be some problems, challenges and mistakes in organising a fair on such a vast scale especially for the first time and the challenges should rather spur them on to achieve greater heights for Ghana.

He noted, it was rather unfortunately some exhibitors got it all wrong by expecting to sell rather than to make business contacts, thus dashing out their high expectations.

Pledging his support to the organisers, support Otumfour Osei Tutu re-iterated it is a good course and must be supported by all.

The Director of Expo Africa Mr. Kwame Owusu Afriyie said Expo Limited would continue to organise such events as its contribution towards economic emancipation of Ghana. He called on the media to be objective and accurate in their reports about the event adding that the negative reports would not help the nation.
