The National Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams says the party is not amused its founder, Jerry John Rawlings disregarded the party’s stance to get registered for the Ghana Card.
Mr. Adams insisted that until the National Identification Authority (NIA) accepts the Voters’ Identity Cards (voters IDs) as a prerequisite for the registration of the Ghana Card, it will not take part in the exercise.
But former President Rawlings who is the founder of the NDC, registered for the card on Tuesday even though the NDC Minority in Parliament have boycotted the process that it claims the use of only birth certificates and passports as proof of citizenship could denationalize some Ghanaians.
Kofi Adams told Onua FM’s Yen Nsempa hosted by Bright Kwasi Asempa on Wednesday, “the fact that H. E. Jerry John Rawlings has registered does not mean the processes are right”.
“He decided to toe another line and there is nothing wrong with that because when we were fighting for the independence, Nana Addo’s elders went somewhere”.
Mr. Adams conceded that his party founder may have registered because he has all the requirements.
“Maybe he will register and push for what is right to be done on the registration,” he added.
Mr. Adams remarked that “even criminals and drugs dealers are using Ghana Passports” which is acceptable by NIA but not the voters’ IDs.
“The intention is to exclude many people and we don’t know what is wrong with this government”, he wondered.
