‘Ghana Beyond Aid’ achievable with private sector support – Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo President Akufo-Addo

President Akufo Addo is courting the partnership of the private sector to realize his government’s Ghana Beyond Aid’ agenda.

Upon assumption of office, President Akufo Addo championed his government’s desire to prudently manage the country’s natural resources in a manner that will allow the country’s development agenda to be financed without recourse to external assistance; an agenda the President refers to as building ‘Ghana Beyond Aid’ to strive to achieve more to improve the fortunes of the country.

In a speech read on his behalf at the 16th Anniversary of the First Sky Group in Accra on Sunday, the President said he is hopeful that ‘Ghana Beyond Aid’ will be a reality.

Chief of Staff, Madam Fremah Opare, read the speech on the President’s behalf.

“I came into office with the aim of improving the living standards of the Ghanaian people. My vision remains to build a Ghana Beyond Aid, that is a Ghana that has dedicated itself to self reliance, mentally to rid themselves of dependence on aid, charity and handouts. We can and we should be able to build a Ghana which looks to the use of her own resources and their proper management as a way to empower social and economic growth of our country. With the help of the church and private sector, I’m confident that we can realize this vision.”

Osafo Maafo to head ‘Ghana Beyond Aid Committee’

The Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo maafo, was tasked to chair a committee set up to oversee actualization of the Akufo-Addo Administration’s vision of a Ghana beyond aid in May 2018.

President Nana Akufo-Addo announced the setting-up the committee at the May Day celebration in 2018.

The Committee was tasked with drawing up a charter which outlines the steps the country is to take in making Ghana self-reliant.

With a 10 member committee, comprising three members each from the Government (Ministries of Finance, Planning and Employment and Labour Relations), Organised Labour, and the Private Enterprise Federation, the committee was given six months to come up with a Charter on Ghana Beyond Aid.

It is currently unclear whether the committee has presented its report or not.
