Ghana @50- Kufuor receives compliments

Accra, March 3, GNA- Goodwill messages from World leaders around the globe have started pouring in congratulating President J.A. Kufuor and Ghana on the occasion of her 50th independence anniversary, whilst expressing wishes of good health and happiness, continued progress and prosperity.

A release signed by Mr Andrew Awuni, Press Secretary to the President and Presidential Spokesperson, said the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Mr Horst Kohler observed that Ghana was one of the first African nations to take her destiny into her own hands, followed by time of disappointment.

President Kohler said over a decade now Ghana has succeeded in combining modern democracy and freedom with traditional values in an exemplary fashion, thereby securing a pioneering role in a region where the desire for stability remains unfulfilled for many years. President Kohler, fresh from his recent visit to Ghana assured Ghana of Germany's continued support for her progress and development in the spirit of partnership.

Similarly, German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, noted that all over Africa people look towards Ghana with pride and expectation because Ghana's independence marked an important turning point in the history of the entire continent.

She stated that Ghana and Germany were linked by numerous shared objectives and the two countries had had close constructive partners for many years.

The President of Turkey, Ahmed Neodet Sezer also underscored the friendly relations between the two countries and expressed the hope that it would continue to prosper on the basis of mutual benefit. He extended his best wishes to President Kufuor and the prosperity of the people of Ghana.

The Prime Minister of Singapore, Mr Goh Chok Tong, said, "Ghana has made steady improvements in economic development and is seen as a model by many countries in Africa."
