Ghana@50 Donations Gone Missing?

The Auditor-General Department Could Not Trace Monies As …

…. Not a Pesewa has been accounted for by the Chief of Staff and ‘Tarzan’

… No Receipt of purchases made with Donations from Corporate entities

The True Democrat's scouts at the office of the Auditor-General have revealed that not a single receipt has been produced to support donations from corporate bodies and those from international donors for the Ghana@50 celebrations. The Office of the Chief of Staff and Presidential Affairs has not accounted for monies and donations from these two sources to the Auditor-General, the scouts stated emphatically.

According to the scouts, the Auditor-General’s Department has audited the Ghana@50 accounts. The revelations of abuse, misappropriation and clear cases of corruption were staggering. What is clear to our scouts is the inability of the NPP government to account for donations from corporate entities, associations and other bodies including foreign donors.

The whereabouts of these donations were still shrouded in secrecy. The Auditor-General has not been shown a single receipt to show what has been done to those donations. “We hope that political pressure is not brought to bear on the Auditor-General to deny this blatant abuse of our donations,” a source at the Auditor-General’s Department lamented.

What amazes the scouts is the inability of the Ghana@50 Secretariat to pay some of the contractors engaged to supply all kinds of equipment to the Secretariat. There are people who are still chasing the Secretariat and its Chief Executive, Dr. Charles Wereko Brobbey (Tarzan) for their monies following services rendered to the Secretariat towards the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Ghana ’s independence.

While these service providers and other contractors are still at the heels of the Chief Executive of Ghana@50, the Office of the Chief Staff or better still Mr. Kwadwo Mpiani, the Chief of Staff has to be held accountable for the donations which have not been documented, the scouts stressed. They explained that for a government which has established the Office of Accountability in the presidency glossing over these serious violations on donations portends danger for the general finances of the country.

The True Democrat's scouts stated that the donations from corporate and foreign sources run into millions of dollars. There are clear indications that the donations and monies have been diverted into private pockets. The scouts therefore urged Parliament’s Accounts Committee headed by the Minority to demand as a matter of urgency the Audited Accounts of Ghana@50 as carried out by the Auditor-General. This when carried out will ensure true accountability and enable Ghanaians to know how their resources and donations have been applied by the men entrusted with this responsibility.

In furtherance of the crusade to get the Auditor-General to tell Ghanaians the true position of the donations, the scouts said the sources within his Department are convinced that political heavyweights are involved in shady deals and misapplication of the people’s monies. The Auditor-General’s report on Ghana@50 stinks. The stench is too strong for anyone to attempt to sweep this matter under the carpet.

Meanwhile, our scouts are pursuing other leads offered by sources at the Auditor-General’s Department as to how to track down the perpetrators. They have assured the scouts of maximum co-operation to get to the bottom of the matter of donations. In their opinion, people in the presidency and at the Ghana@50 Secretariat have colluded to steal and divert the donations and must be made to cough them.

Investigations continue.
