The Queen Mother of the Asante Mampong Traditional Area, Nana Agyakoma Difie II, has nominated a Germany-based computational scientist, Barima Nkansa Osei-Bonsu, as the successor to the late Paramount Chief of Asante Mampong, Daasebre Osei Bonsu II.
According to a report by Plus 1 TV on Monday, October 13, 2025, Nana Agyakoma Difie II, who holds the authority to select the next occupant of the Silver Stool, announced the nomination of Barima Nkansa Osei-Bonsu as the new Mamponghene following the death of Daasebre Osei Bonsu II.
A video from the outdooring ceremony showed the queen mother raising the nominee’s hand before the public to symbolise his selection, after which he was carried shoulder-high by men amid the singing of appellations.
As part of the confirmation process, the nominee is expected to swear an oath of service to his people before proceeding to take the Great Oath before the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

Daasebre Osei Bonsu II passed away on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025, at the age of 86, after a short illness.
Born on December 31, 1939, as Saint Oswald Gyimah-Kessie, he was a distinguished lawyer, economist, and alumnus of Prempeh College and the University of Ghana, Legon.
Before his enstoolment, he served as Registrar of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi.
Enstooled on August 25, 1996, as the 28th occupant of the Amaniampong Silver Stool, he succeeded his uncle, Nana Atakora Amaniampong II, ending nearly two decades of chieftaincy disputes in Mampong and ushering in an era of peace and development.

He reigned for 29 years without a single litigation, a record unmatched since 1930, earning widespread acclaim for his diplomacy, wisdom, and commitment to progress.
In Ashanti custom and chieftaincy, the Silver Stool symbolises the sovereignty of the Mampong Division within the Asanteman Confederacy, one of the kingdom’s principal divisions alongside Kumasi, Juaben, and others.
As Mamponghene and Krontihene of the Ashanti Kingdom (a senior advisory role), the occupant of the Asante Mampong Stool serves as Vice President of the Ashanti Regional House of Chiefs, second only to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The Asante Mamponghemaa has unveiled Nana Osei Bonsu as the newly selected Mamponghene to succeed the late Daasebre Osei Bonsu II.
