Ex-Germany international Gerald Asamoah has been appointed the new team manager for German Bundesliga side Schalke 04.

The Ghanaian was confirmed on Saturday after the club announced that Huub Stevens and Mike Büskens will be in charge for the rest of the season.

They will be on the bench for Saturday’s home game against RB Leipzig and supported by Matthias Kreutzer, a new team analyst and assistant coach, and Asamoah.

Asamoah played for the Royal Blues between 1999 to 2010.

Schalke early this week announced the dismissal of head Domenico Tedesco after team's mauling in the UEFA Champions League.
