The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has put up temporary structures to shelter victims displaced by the Gbiniyiri conflict in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of the Savannah Region.

According to a 3news.com report on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, beds and mattresses have also been distributed to the victims, many of whom are women and children who sought refuge at the Sawla police station.

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, through the Ghana School Feeding Programme, has also provided food packs and water to the affected families.

Delivering the items on behalf of the gender minister, Savannah Regional Coordinator of the programme, Hajia Afusei Bawa, expressed shock at the scale of displacement.

“The gender minister, through the Social Welfare Protection, has decided to organise hundreds of food packs and some water to deliver to the victims of this unfortunate situation. I also promise that God willing, first thing tomorrow morning, I will be here in Sawla to check on the victims. We also pray for calm and peace to prevail for the betterment of Savannah Region,” she stated.

Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police, Dr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has assured residents that the situation is under control.

“Since I came, we have not heard any gunshots. The security personnel have actually taken the ground and are making sure that life returns to normalcy. The police, military, and other security services are working to make sure that things are well,” he stated.

The violence, which erupted on Sunday, August 24, was triggered by a dispute over a parcel of land.

Five people have been confirmed dead, while six others have sustained various degrees of injuries, with three in critical condition.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Sawla-Tuna-Kalba, Sinkina Saaka, has confirmed the incident and called for calm.
