Galaxy International School holds Science Makers' Fair

On Saturday, May 18, 2024, the students of Galaxy International School showcased their scientific prowess and innovative capabilities in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) at the school's Science Makers' Fair.

The event featured a diverse collection of items, scientific experiments, and products, all demonstrating the students' proficiency in applying scientific principles and lessons.

Mehmet Akmermer, the Managing Director of Galaxy International School, addressed the attendees, emphasizing the critical role of science in equipping students with the knowledge and skills necessary to understand and solve complex problems. He highlighted the fair's objective to acknowledge, encourage, and inspire creativity and innovation among the students.

Akmermer affirmed the school's dedication to the STEM initiative, aiming to acquaint students with best practices that will broaden their worldview, shape their future, and foster an appreciation for STEM as the cornerstone of modern education.

"These students are the embodiment of innovation, collaboration, and resilience in overcoming life's obstacles," he remarked.

Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Minister of Education, represented by a speech, stressed the significance of STEM in addressing daily challenges. He noted the global shift towards innovation as a transformative force in human lives and assured that the government would collaborate with institutions like Galaxy International to transition Ghana's educational system from theoretical to practical learning.

He praised Galaxy International for setting the benchmark in education through their commitment to superior teaching and learning standards.

"We are witnessing the practical application of theoretical knowledge by students at this fair. Their projects are not merely academic; they represent the future contributions of these young minds as tomorrow's innovators, scientists, engineers, and leaders," he stated.

Mr. Ebenezer Doku, the Adentan Municipal Chief Executive, remarked on the pervasive nature of science, stating, "Science's influence is omnipresent, affecting every facet of life, from the complexities of classroom learning to the simple act of walking. Understanding the principles that govern natural phenomena deepens our appreciation of the world."

The students' exhibits included water fountains and juice dispensers crafted from plastic bottles, 'elephant toothpaste' for cleaning PVC pipes, robots, automated purchasing machines, artwork, beads, cement moulds of various shapes made with paper for construction, and miniature theatres with toys performing intricate acts.
