GSFP completes caterer training in Volta, Oti and Bono regions

The Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) has completed a two-week practical training programme for newly recruited caterers in the Volta, Oti and Bono Regions as part of efforts to strengthen programme implementation and improve the quality of meals served to beneficiary schoolchildren.

The training focused on equipping caterers with practical skills in the effective use of locally produced foodstuffs, in line with the programme’s objective of promoting local agriculture while ensuring the provision of nutritious meals to pupils.

According to the GSFP, participants received training in food hygiene and safety, nutrition, portion control, the use of handy measures for serving meals, and proper kitchen maintenance.

The programme described the initiative as part of its broader strategy to “improve service delivery, promote high standards of hygiene and nutrition, and support local economic development through the use of locally sourced food items.”

The GSFP also acknowledged the support of key stakeholders whose collaboration contributed to the successful implementation of the training. These include Women in Agricultural Development (WIAD), the Ghana Education Service (GES), Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), training facilitators, and other partners.

“The Programme acknowledges the invaluable support and collaboration of key stakeholders… whose contributions were instrumental in the successful implementation of the training,” the statement said.

Reaffirming its commitment to the welfare of schoolchildren, the GSFP stated that it remains dedicated to continuous capacity building and stakeholder engagement to ensure the delivery of “safe, nutritious and adequate meals for all beneficiary pupils nationwide.”

The Programme also extended seasonal goodwill to the public, wishing stakeholders and Ghanaians “a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.”
