GRIDCo completes stringing of transmission line

Accra, March 8, GNA - The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) on Tuesday completed and has put into service, the Fourth 161kV transmission line between Tema and Accra. SAE Power Lines, the contractor on the project, worked ahead of schedule to complete the 2.5 million-dollar transmission project, which was funded from GRIDCo's internally generated funds.

A statement issued by Mr Albert Kwesi Quainoo, Head of Public Relation= s of GRIDCo said completion of the project would enhance the reliability of supply, as well as provide additional power evacuation capability to Accra. It said GRIDCo could now carry out maintenance works on anyone of the four lines within the Accra-Tema corridor with minimal impact to customers. In addition, it would bring improvement in system voltages and reduce transmission losses, which would positively impact on supply quality to consumers. Consequently, the completion of the project brings to an end the five-week load management to consumers in Accra announced by GRIDCo on January 31. "GRIDCo sincerely appreciates the patience of the public during the difficult period," it added.
