GRA organises tax clinic in Tema

In line with the GRA Tax and Good Governance week that had been declared by GRA, the Customs Division of GRA in conjunction with the Tema Tax payer office has organised a tax clinic for constituents of the Tema metropolis.

The GRA met with its stakeholders, to sensitize them on appropriate conventions in filing of returns, payment of taxes towards the holistic goal of moving Ghana beyond aid.

An Assistant Commissioner of Taxes at the Tema Small Tax Payer Office, Grace Ampofoah Kormey indicated that the filing of returns brings many benefits to the tax payer including positioning themselves for tax reliefs, helping to keep accurate records, and go a long way to eliminate disputes between tax officials and taxpayers.

“When you file your returns, then you can claim your reliefs like your personal relief, marriage relief, child education relief, disability relief and old age relief among others, she said.

In filing your relief, she said one can furnish GRA with their records of their business so that GRA will have information on how to assess them fairly.

She added that the GRA does not delight in punishing offenders of tax laws, so these sensitization programs, try to highlight penalties that are attracted from forgoing tax obligations.

Grace Ampofoah Kormey also indicated that the tax clinic also offered the opportunity to introduce, in detail, reforms especially with regards to automations in revenue generation and collection that have brought convenience to the taxpayer and encouraged all citizens eligible for tax, to be honest in their returns for their own benefit as well as the nation’s.
