GRA intercepts tax-evading diesel syndicate worth GH¢2.3 million

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has intercepted a diesel smuggling syndicate accused of evading taxes amounting to GH¢2.3 million.

According to the GRA, the syndicate had been operating covertly to distribute and sell diesel products without paying the appropriate taxes and levies to the state.

The operation, which forms part of the Authority’s enhanced enforcement and compliance measures, led to the seizure of several tankers suspected of transporting untaxed fuel.

Officials from the Customs Division of the GRA said investigations are underway to identify the individuals and companies behind the illegal operation.

The suspects, once identified, will face prosecution under Ghana’s tax and petroleum laws.

New GRA boss’s competence and NDC ties revealed

The GRA has since reiterated its commitment to clamping down on fuel-related tax evasion, warning that it will continue to pursue offenders to safeguard national revenue.

“The GRA will not relent in its efforts to ensure that every litre of fuel sold in Ghana is properly taxed. We urge all operators in the petroleum value chain to comply with the law,” an official statement said.

The interception underscores the GRA’s intensified nationwide campaign to curb tax evasion, smuggling, and revenue leakages within the petroleum distribution sector.
