GPHA Boss Hauled Before Court

.....SFO RUBBISHES PORT DIRECTOR

Mr. Ben Owusu-Mensah, the Director General of GPHA, already grappling with allegations of his involvement in a $60 million scandal has been dragged to court for unlawful dismissals and unjustified victimization.

Two former employees of the authority, Mr. Shaibu Abubakari, Senior Traffic Officer and Mr. David Akrong, filed a suit at an Accra High Court against the Director demanding a number of reliefs including an order that their summary dismissal was unlawful.

In their statement of claim, the plaintiffs are also seeking an order from the court compelling the GPHA management to pay the salaries and other emoluments due them since December 27, 2001 in addition to interests on the amounts at the prevailing rate.

According to Chronicle, during the early embers of Mr. Ben Owusu-Mensah appointment as acting CE of GPHA, he hauled Abubakari before the SFO for fraudulently causing financial loss to the state to the tune of about a billion cedis.

While SFO was investigating the matter, the Director General ordered the interdiction of the Senior Traffic Officer who was immediately put on half salary.

“Chronicle” further learnt that while these letters of interdiction, dismissal and benefit from the redundancy package were being pushed against Mr. Abubakari, the SFO hadn’t even concluded their investigations.

Up to date the SFO hasn’t made any adverse findings against him and he has not also been indicted by any court for causing financial loss to the tune of about one billion cedis as alleged by the GPHA boss.

Abubakari also claims that he hasn’t been shown a copy of the report commissioned by the GPHA boss.
