President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, visited the Class Media Group to solidarize with them over the petrol bombing incident at their premises.

On Thursday, April 25, 2024, unidentified men petrol-bombed the façade of the CMG building but they were unsuccessful due to the durability of the glass installation at the entrance of the building.

In view of the above, the GJA president with a 6-member delegation went there to ascertain, at first-hand, what actually happened and to show solidarity with them.

The delegation was met by the Group Operation Officer of CMG, Theodore Edward, who briefed the delegation and showed them CCTV pictures of how the assailants went about the petrol bombing.

He revealed that the incident happened at 2 am, at which time most of the staff had closed and gone home.

He said they have since reported the incident to the Cantonment police station.

Edwards expressed his appreciation to the GJA president and his team for visiting them, especially on a holiday.

He also thanked the Korean International Co-operation Agency (KOICA), which is located in a building opposite theirs, because it was their CCTV footage that revealed the petrol bombing incident.

“To come with a strong team to visit us on holiday, we don’t take it for granted. We appreciate it”, he said.

The GJA president, on his part, condemned the act and called on the police to investigate and get to the bottom of the incident.

He also advised CMG to take their security seriously, adding that “with elections approaching, the security of the media houses ought to be tighter”.

The delegation was made up of Kobby Asmah, a member of the National Media Commission; Michael Petit Mawugbe, Executive Secretary to the GJA President; Vance Azu, a veteran journalist; Roland Acquah Stevens and Mohammed Alhassan who are members of the GJA.
