The Ashanti Regional President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Listowel Yesu Bukarson is calling for the resignation of the GJA President Roland Affail Monney.

According to him, the GJA president has betrayed journalists with his comments on the accident which involved members of the presidential press corps last week.

Mr. Monney in an interview maintained that the vehicle hired for the journalists was in good condition, adding that it was not the first time the Presidency, through its transport officer, had done business with the vehicle rental company and that there was no doubt that, due process was followed.

Ghanaian Times reporter Samuel Nuamah died on the spot when the hired van carrying the corps burst a tyre and somersaulted while returning from the Volta region after an assignment.

The National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) has subsequently described the vehicle as unfit for the road.

Commenting on the development, Bukarson told host Prince Minkah on the Ultimate Breakfast show Friday, that Mr Monney has lost the moral right to lead the GJA.

“Mr. Monney by his comments seem to have betrayed the media. He wasn’t even comfortable with the position he advanced and adduced to protect the journalists when he granted the interview. By his comments, he wanted to believe the politician ahead of his own men who were on the trip.

“If I had my own way, I would ask him to resign so we could build the GJA going forward,” he noted.
