GIS trains immigration officers from Liberia

Assin Fosu (C/R), Dec. 11, GNA - Personnel from the Bureau of Immigration and Naturalisation Liberia (BIN), at the weekend ended an eig= ht week training of trainer's course in Ghana.

The capacity building course, which took place at the Ghana Immigrat= ion Service (GIS) Academy at Assin Fosu in the Central Region, was collaborat= ed by The Netherlands and United Nations Missions in Liberia. The course on the theme: "Strengthening the Institutional capacity o= f BIN," aimed at promoting migration best practices and policies, which wou= ld propel the BIN into a self-serving institution capable of training its lo= cal recruits and staff.

The graduates comprising 20 officers were taken through topics, whic= h included; documents fraud, migration management, intelligence service and=

entry port duties to sharpen their skills in passenger clearance and document fraud detection. Mr Daniel Tabaazuing, Acting Deputy Director of Operations of the GI= S said the course would assist the graduates to train and monitor the institutional development of BIN and help Liberia to establish a school t= o turn out immigration and naturalisation personnel.

"You will be required to draw up in-training programmes as well as s= eek sponsorship for some international training programmes," he said. The Commandant of the academy, Isaac Luortey entreated the graduates= to demonstrate initiative, alertness and high sense of discretion and judgme= nt in the discharge of their duties. was important for officers of the BIN to undergo the training to develop their skills to ensure well deserved peace in Liberia. He pledged her country's continued support for the programme to enha= nce the healing and construction process in Liberia.
