GIMPA puts law degrees on hold, ‘pockets’ application fees - Reports

The dream of prospective law students to pursue an advertised 3-year Bachelor of Law degree (LLB) programme at the Kumasi Campus of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) has been shattered.

The institute has suspended a planned 3-year Bachelor of Law degree (LLB) programme, which would have started in September this year.

About 30 students who purchased and filled admission forms for the programme have duly been notified about the suspension, since August 2, 2019.

In an electronic mail to the applicants, the Campus manager of GIMPA, Kumasi Campus, informed the applicants that “the 3-year LLB programme scheduled to start in September 2019 on Kumasi Campus has been postponed indefinitely due to national level circumstances outside our control”.

GIMPA, however, advised the applicants “to consider enrolling on our Master’s in Information Technology and Law.”

Some of the applicants bemoaned the disappointment in the suspension of the programme for the past three years, thus compelling some students to opt for other programmes anytime GIMPA suspends the LLB programme.

According to them, admission forms for the 3-year Bachelor of Law degree (LLB) programme had been sold out and bought by prospective law students for three years now, but no admission takes place because it is eventually suspended.

Last year, the authorities at GIMPA reportedly blamed their inability to roll out the LLB programme at the Kumasi campus on inadequate applicants.

In spite of the continued suspension of the programme at the Kumasi campus, the Faculty of Law is openly advertised on entry to the premises of the Kumasi campus.
