GIA passengers stranded

Air passengers on board the Ghana International (GIA) have been stranded since last Wednesday without any information as to when they will fly.

The passengers who are traveling to Düsseldorf- Germany and UK have been sleeping at the Kotoka International Airport since Wednesday, but no official from the GIA has communicated to them.

This is said to have angered them as they besieged the office of the GIA early hours of Sunday.

The Passengers, some children, patients and business people, told Asempa News that it would be the last time they would board GIA flights.

A UK resident who had his return ticket with the GIA said “I have been boarding GIA flights and this would be the last time to board GIA flights.

This is not the first time, but this would be the last time. I will spread the information to other people in UK.

When I get to London I will do something, I will sabotaged the GIA”, a furious passenger told Asempa News.

She said “my mother is sick and I have to fly her to London by the close of the day for doctors to attend to her, but they are not telling us anything. It’s not nice, its disrespect, complete disrespect, at least tell us something”, she explained.

“I am not a Ghanaian but I wish Ghanaians well, but what they are doing is bad, I will do something to sabotage the whole GIA”, she warned.

Other passengers say they had run out of funds since they came all the way from as far as Brong Ahafo and Ashanti Region Regions.

“We are here to ask them to give us our money. This is what they did which lead to the collapse of the Ghana Airways.

All the white people who had their monies have boarded different flights to their various destinations, so we asking them to give us our money”, they explained.

One of the passengers who is traveling with his 4-year old boy said she had run out of funds and even money to purchase baby diapers for the son had become a problem.

“All my money is finish. I don’t even have one cedi to buy pampers for my son. He says he would defecate now, what should I do?” she wondered.

“This is the second time this is happening to me. It happened to my husband and so I and my family would never patronize GIA again”, she told Asempa News.

They said they did not give them any information while several calls to their office were not answered.

No official of the GIA was there to comment as at the time of filing the story.

But the stranded passengers allegedly told Asempa News that they piped through one of the doors of one of the offices and notice that there was someone locked in the office.

But the security refuted the allegation and said there are several people in the building and it could be other workers of other companies in the building.

The passengers alleged that an official of the GIA gave directives to the security personnel to be given to the passengers that their flight would be on Tuesday, 4th May, 2010. “This is disrespectful. How are we sure even the Tuesday would be possible. How can you pass on information to us through a security and not us directly”, they wondered.

An Official of GIA, who gave his name as Ben says he would not comment on the issue. Asked to give his full name, Ben said in Akan dialect, “wenya Ben noa fano saa, Kwaku”, meaning, if you have gotten Ben, take it like that.
