GHIMS fully deployed at Cape Coast Teaching Hospital - Health minister announces

Minister of Health Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has announced that the Ghana Health Information Management System (GHIMS) is now fully operational at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital (CCTH), marking a major step toward a state-owned digital platform for managing patient records.

The minister made the announcement during a working visit to the hospital on Saturday November 15, 2025, where he inspected various units and interacted with management and frontline staff.

The deployment of GHIMS at CCTH, he said, is part of government’s push to establish a permanent electronic health information system owned and controlled by the state.

“This is part of government’s push to establish a permanent electronic health information system owned and controlled by the government”, the report said.

According to a citinewsroom.com report on November 15, 2025, the initiative aims to safeguard patient data, strengthen system reliability, and enhance the efficiency of service delivery across the country’s health facilities.

Mintah Akandoh noted that recent disruptions in electronic medical systems highlighted the need for government ownership of both software and hardware infrastructure supporting digital records.

He explained that a fully state-owned platform would ensure stability, improve data protection, and allow seamless integration with future service providers as the health sector expands its digital operations.

Mintah Akandoh also used the visit to urge health professionals to uphold high standards of professionalism and respect in their engagement with patients.

He said government remains committed to improving working conditions within health facilities but stressed that patient dignity must always remain a priority.
