A police officer and a toll collector have been arrested as the Tema Police begin investigations into circumstances surrounding the theft of GHC45,000 from a toll booth two days ago.

The suspects were picked up by the the police on suspicion that their inaction may have contributed to making it easy for the huge sum of money to be stolen.

The Public Relations Officer of the Tema Regional Police Command, A.S.P Joseph Benefo Darkwa in an interview with Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa FM, explained that the suspect police officer claims he crossed over to the other side of road at the time of the theft, adding that his conduct smacks of unprofessionalism.

“He was supposed to be at his duty post but he was not there so we have to investigate why he was not there. He has to give us reasons why he was absent from his duty post and when we find him culpable he will be dealt with accordingly.”

A.S.P Benefo Darkwa added that the Police Command has beefed up security at the toll booth, with the patrol teams intensifying their rounds in the area to ensure there no such recurrence of theft.
