The Force Commander (FC) for the United Nations Stabilisation Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO), Lieutenant-General E. R. Martins Filho, has urged troops of the Ghanaian Battalion serving with MONUSCO, to maintain high standard of professionalism.

A statement issued by Captain Senanu Edward Akakpo, Press Information Officer, GHANBATT 15 and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra said, the FC interacted with troops during his maiden visit to the Ghanaian Battalion (GHANBATT 15) headquarters at INCAL Complex, Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The FC admonished the troops to be worthy ambassadors of Ghana as they fight towards the achievement of peace in the DRC saying, “a fight for peace is more difficult than fighting war”.

Lt Gen Filho also stressed on the need for the troops to undertake the task of ensuring the protection of civilian population of DRC with all humility, have it in mind that, “we are here to serve and not to be served”.

The FC commended the battalion for a smooth take over from the previous battalion and urged all to trust in each other by having one mandate and mission since these would make them realize the purpose of deploying them to DRC, which is the fight for peace.
