"Pupils reject shift", is the headline of the lead story in the Times which says pupils from primary and junior seciondary schools in the Tamale municipality yesterday demonstrated against the mass introduction of the shift system this academic year. The Times says the pupils who appeared to lack direction and leadership, complained that the system will not give them much time for the numerous subjects being offered at school since they will now start classes at 7.30 a.m. and close at 12.30 p.m. to make room for another shift. With the old system, classes started at 8 a.m. and closed at 2.30 p.m. without shift. GRI

"Action plan on NEF recommendations ready", is the heading of a middle page story in the Times which says the post-Economic Forum Committee is to submit to government, an action plan based on the recommendations made at the recent National Economic Forum. The Times says this new arrangement is a step further from the previous mandate of the committee to present just a report on the recommendations of the forum to the government. Dr Kobina Erbynn and Dr Ferdinand Tay, Director-General and Director, Development Policy Division respectively of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) disclosed this in Accra on Monday.
