GHA presents computers to KNUST

Accra, April 11, GNA-The Ghana High Authority (GHA) on Tuesday presented two personal computers with accessories worth 16.2 million cedis to the School of Engineering of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

This was in response to an appeal made by the school to various organisations for assistance to enable students to acquire of basic computer skills. At the presentation ceremony, Mr Bashiru Sakibu, Chief Executive of GHA said the presentation is in fulfillment of a pledge made by GHA and expressed the hope that the computers would help in the efficient training of the students, most of whom become GHA's civil and mechanical engineers.

"We hope that the computers will help reduce the pressure on the few computers in the department of Civil Engineering and enhance academic work of its students."

He said the GHA is sharing some of it's resources with the school because it cares for the improvement of the academic capability of the alma mater of its engineers.

Mr Dan Markin, Board Chairman of GHA said the items are in support of government's effort at equipping the school since the world is moving fast with information technology becoming the focus.

He said Obuasi town roads, about which the public has expressed concern, have been given to a new contractor because the old contractor was delaying the work.

The Board Chairman further cautioned politicians not to try to score political points with the project, saying, "it is a national issue." Mrs Patience Damptey, a Board member of GHA presented the computers to Professor Kwasi Andah, Head of the Department of Civil Engineering of KNUST.

He appealed for more computers, saying, "the current ratio of one computer to 40 students is woefully inadequate. "At least the normal ratio should be one computer to 15 students'.
