'GH¢700 for a graduate is unacceptable' - Ken Agyapong criticises NABCO

Businessman and New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart, Kennedy Agyapong, has taken a swipe at the Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) programme, describing the monthly GH¢700 stipend paid to trainees as unfair and disrespectful to university graduates.

Speaking in an interview with Kastle TV and shared on X on December 9, Agyapong argued that the allowance offered under the programme fell far below acceptable standards, especially when compared to salaries paid in the private sector.

According to him, it is unacceptable for a government initiative designed to empower young graduates to offer wages that do not reflect their level of education or the cost of living.

“The kind of work I am talking about is not NABCO. How can a whole university graduate receive GH¢700 as salary? Even my driver earns more than that,” he claimed.

“The young ladies who work in my company as beginners take home GH¢1,200 every month after taxes, with free transport and lunch. How do you create a job for a graduate and pay him GH¢700 and even that, they are not paid on time,” the NPP flagbearer aspirant added.

The outspoken politician has previously criticised policies he believes do not adequately support young people entering the job market.
