The Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) is facing a significant crisis as its unionised staff have declared Director-General Professor Amin Alhassan persona non grata.
At a durbar held in Accra on Thursday, August 28, 2025, Divisional Union Chairman, Sam Nat Kevor, leveled serious accusations against Prof Alhassan, including mismanagement, financial impropriety, and neglect of staff welfare, according to a report by citinewsroom.com.
“With all these allegations, anyone would have resigned honorably, but that is not what we are witnessing. Instead, he is tormenting workers who speak out about these issues. GBC staff have been among the first to raise concerns regarding this director-general,” he stated.
The staff's grievances extend to an alleged neglect by the D-G of the corporation's core mandate under his leadership.
Kevor emphasised, “In Tamale, employees went to work, and when they returned, their bungalows were earmarked for eviction. Our director-general claimed he had no knowledge of this, but now, when you visit the area, it has become a China Mall. We do not know how the evaluation was conducted or what the proceeds were.”

Adding to the controversy, workers have questioned Prof Alhassan's legitimacy to remain in office, citing the expiration of his contract in 2023.
“In Adum Kumasi, a piece of land designated for retirees has been sold. The union has been demanding transparency regarding how much the proceeds from that land amount to. We’ve been told only 50% has been paid, but we don’t know the total amount involved. We will pursue this matter,” he said.
They also revealed that his salary has been suspended since March 2025 due to a lack of financial clearance.
“At the Public Accounts Committee, he stated they are in the process of negotiation, when asked about the amounts involved,” Kevor remarked.
Calling for urgent intervention, the staff urged the appointing authorities to remove him without delay, warning that continued inaction could cripple the operations of the state broadcaster.

“Now, GBC is a crime scene, and we need to uncover the truth. The appointing authority, specifically the NMC, seems to be dragging its feet on these matters. We are declaring Prof. Amin Alhassan persona non grata.
“This corporation is on the brink of collapse, and we cannot allow a Director-General whose contract has expired to continue signing cheques and official documents on behalf of GBC,” he concluded.
