GAPOHA, 13 others, donate towards Farmers' Day

Accra, Nov. 21, GNA - The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GAPOHA) and 13 other companies on Friday donated assorted items towards this year's Farmers' Day, which falls on December 5.

Mr Abraham Mensah, Acting Chief Personnel and Administrative Manager of GAPOHA, presented the items, which included one outboard motor, five boxes of machetes and two boxes of knapsack sprayers all valued at 30.8 million cedis.

Mr Mensah promised that a buffet lunch would be organized for the farmers on the first of December adding, "GAPOHA, Ministry of Food and Agriculture and Ghanaian farmers are brothers, so we treat the Farmers' Day celebration with all seriousness".

Accra Brewery Limited gave 200 cartons of Club Beer, 100 Wellington boots and 100 cutlasses.

Merchant Bank gave a cheque for 10 million cedis while Ladux Technical Service donated a box of liquid fertilizer.

Agria Machinery Company Limited dealers in agriculture products presented two bi-water pumping machines worth 20 million cedis.

Produce Buying Company Limited (PBC) presented one 20-inch coloured television and two full pieces of wax prints.

Nolux Plantation, producers of cotton, presented 50 pieces of student mattresses and one million cedis cash in support of the day.

State Insurance Company (SIC) also gave out a cheque for 15 million cedis and promised to work out a kind of insurance scheme for award winning farmers.

NESTLE Ghana Limited offered 10 cartons of Milo, 15 cartons of Chocolim, 15 cartons of Cerevita, 20 trays of Carnation milk and five trays of Ideal milk.

DANEX Company Limited also gave out 10 kilograms kilos of Veterinary drugs and 500,000 cedis towards the organisation of the Day.

Continental Christian Traders Limited (CCT) presented fishing nets and hooks worth 11.5 million cedis to boost the morale of farmers.

Ghana Heavy Equipment Limited donated 100 pieces of calendars to be given to farmers and also a cheque for five million cedis.

Old Vandals Association presented two boxes of machetes and 10 pairs of Wellington boots while Poly Group Limited gave two water tanks, eight dustbins and four bales of poly sacks.

Major Courage Quashigah (rtd), Minister of Food and Agriculture, who received the items expressed his appreciation to the donors and called for more since the Day was a great one because of the important role farmers played in the development of the nation.
