The Ghana Atomic Energy Commission (GAEC) Ladies Association was at the weekend inaugurated in Accra.

The event was on the theme: “Harnessing the Power of Synergy among Women to Promote GAEC Agenda”.

Mrs Patricia Appiagyei, Deputy Minister of Environment, Science Technology and Innovations, inaugurating the association said, GAEC after its establishment, had become a leading organization contributing to the country’s sustainable prosperity through the effective utilization of nuclear, biotechnology and other related technologies.

She said, “The Commission at 56 years has entered into a new era of corporate development with responsiveness towards United Nations’ Global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”.

Mrs Appiagyei said, the women have been part of the Commission since its inception and they have not been limited to participate in any field of endeavour including core research, administrative duties and managerial roles.

She urged the women to be united and dedicated to achieve their goal in supporting the activities of the Commission.

“As ladies in GAEC, you need to work together in a committed way to achieve the common goal of the Commission. You may be in different fields but your work is inter-dependent and as team members, you must share responsibilities and hold ourselves accountable for attaining the Commission’s vision”, she said.

Professor Mary Boadu, the President of the association, said the association was created to organise all female staff of GAEC and ensure their active involvement in the agenda and programmes of the Commission and promote the development of women as a whole.

“Since the establishment of the Commission, there has seen a gradual increase in women engagement in various fields of expertise and there are 300 female staff at post within the Commission, which is an all-time high number”, she added.

Mrs Boadu commended management of GAEC for showing support since the inception of association towards women empowerment.
