GACL investigating the March 14 disturbance at KIA

The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) is conducting a full-scale investigation into disruption of activities at the domestic terminal of the Kotoka International Airport on Wednesday.

A press release signed by Mrs Doreen Owusu-Fianko, Managing Director of GACL, said when the facts were established, the authority would take the necessary steps to prevent its recurrence.

It said on the evening of Tuesday, March 13, there had been an alleged misunderstanding between Aviation Security (AvSec) Personnel and some other security operatives at the airport and on Wednesday March 14, staff of AvSec prevented access to the domestic terminal, resulting in some 40 minutes delay in domestic flights.

The release said law enforcement officers were brought in to restore order at the KIA which “unfortunately led to another misunderstanding between police personnel and an officer in charge at the domestic terminal”.

It said the GACL wishes to reassure the public of its continued commitment to ensure a pleasant traveling experience for all users of the airport.**
