Fulani Herdsmen to pay for damages

Fulani herdsmen and their landlords in the Akatsi-North District of the Volta Region will henceforth be prosecuted and surcharged with damages done to food farms by their cattle.

In situations where the herd causing the damage was not identified, all herdsmen and landlords would be lumped up for the consequences.

Mr. James Gunu, District Chief Executive (DCE), who made this known, was of the view that data on the Fulani herdsmen and their landlords, which had been collected, would be frequently updated to help control their activities in all in the area.

He was addressing a novelty District Level Public Accounts Forum held at Ave-Dakpa, to account for the Assembly’s stewardship since its establishment in June 2012.

Mr. Gunu said agriculture, which was the mainstay of the area, was under threat by activities of the Fulani’s.

The theme for the forum was: “A better district means a better Ghana”.

The state of health, agriculture, education, revenue, expenditure, Tourism and Infrastructure in the district, were among issues discussed.

Mr.Gunu asked residents to pay their taxes and rates, without which, the Assembly would not be able to carry out its obligations.
