Fresh probe into JB’s murder

The Justice Minister said although the two Daniel Asiedu and Vincent Dosoo have been discharged, she expected them to be rearrested.

She said the state is opening a new docket into the MP's killing on February 9, 2016.

“We have reviewed the docket and we have come to the conclusion that there are aspects of the matter that require further investigation,” she added.

Yesterday, an Accra High Court hearing the case involving the two alleged killers of Joseph B. Daquah-Adu, who was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Abuakwa North in the Eastern Region, discharged the two accused persons.

The court discharged Daniel Asiedu and Vincent Bosso after the prosecution told the court that it had filed a Nolle Prosequi (NP) in respect of the case.

Ms Sefakor Batsa, a Senior State Attorney, told the court that pursuant to section 54 of the criminal and other offences act, the Attorney-General (AG) on May 29, entered a Nolle Prosequi in respect of the matter.

Counsel for the accused persons, Mr Muniru Kasim, said the AG has every prerogative to do that, so understandably, he would not object to the filling of the Nolle Prosequi.

The court presided over by Justice L. L Mensah, a Court of Appeal Judge sitting with additional responsibility, then discharged the two based on both submissions.

At the last sitting, the court fixed May 30 to empanel the jury for the trial of the two alleged killers of the MP.

Initially, Tuesday, May 16, was fixed for the purpose but the prosecution prayed the court for adjournment, saying there was some new development that needed to be addressed.

Ms Batsa, prayed the court to adjourn the case for the prosecution to address some emerging issues, but the defence was not opposed to it.
On March 15, this year, the Accra Central District Court committed Asiedu, also known as, ‘Sexy Dondon’, and Bosso, also known as ‘Junior Agogo,’ to stand trial at the High Court.

Asiedu has been charged with murder, conspiracy to rob and robbery.
His accomplice, Bosso, was being held on a charge of conspiracy to rob.
At the District Court, Asiedu gave different accounts on how he was arrested by the police.

Asiedu’s accomplice, Bosso, admitted that he decided to embark on a robbery spree on February 8, 2016.He said they went to East Legon together. However, they parted ways over a disagreement on which house they were to rob. According to Bosso, Asiedu took a cutter and knife from him and he boarded a car and left the vicinity.

Mrs Yvonne Attakorah Obuobisa, Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), told the District Court, presided by Mr Stephen Owusu, that Asiedu resided at Agbogbloshie and Bosso was his friend.

Mr Danquah, until his death, lived with his family in a one-storey building at Shiashie.

On February 8, 2016, at about 11:40 p.m., the deceased went to his house with his driver, Samuel Berko Sarkodie.

The driver, after dropping off the deceased, handed over the car keys to him and left for his residence at Kasoa.

At about 1 a.m., however, Asiedu was alleged to have armed himself with a catapult, a sharp cutlass and a cutter and, on the blind side of the MP's security man, entered the residence.

According to prosecution, Asiedu picked up a ladder and entered the top floor of the house, where the deceased was sleeping, with the security man at post also fast asleep.

The deceased, realising there was an intruder, woke up from his sleep and held Asiedu.

The prosecution said Asiedu stabbed the deceased above his breast on his left side, but Mr Danquah-Adu then held the knife and shouted for help.
Danquah-Adu, subsequently, sustained deep cuts in his hands and became unconscious. While he was bleeding profusely, Asiedu allegedly stabbed him again below the breast on his right side and neck and left him to his fate.

Asiedu then took away two iPhones and a tablet of the deceased, and managed to descend from the top to the back of the house, climbed one of the water tanks in the house, skipped the electric fence of the house into an adjoining house and escaped.

The security man in the house heard the shouts of Mr Danquah-Adu for help and alerted other security men in the area for assistance but to no avail.
Some neighbours, however, got in touch with the police emergency number, but when the police arrived, the MP had passed on and the body was sent to the Police Hospital.

The prosecutor said investigations led to the arrest of the accused, who confessed to the crime.
