Four traders fined eight million cedis for selling in street

Kumasi, April 02, GNA - A Kumasi circuit court last Thursday fined four traders a total of eight million cedis for selling in the streets of Kumasi soon after the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly's exercise to clamp down on street trading.

The accused persons pleaded guilty and are to pay two million cedis each. They are Baah Asumadu Sakyi, Kwame Bannor, Kwaku Nsiah and Adabre Frafra.

They were also made to sign a bond to stay away from the streets. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector W.K. Salia told the court that last Wednesday, a combined team of police and the KMA task force went on an operation to check whether traders were keeping off the streets. During the exercise they spotted the accused persons selling their wares at KO Methodist and the "18" lane, areas forbidden for trading activities.
