The Upper West Regional Police Command has confirmed the arrest of four students in connection with violent disturbances that broke out at the Wa Technical Institute.

According to citinewsroom.com on December 9, 2025, the riots left significant damage to school property.

Regional Police Commander, DCOP Francis Yiribaare, described the chaos as a grave act of misconduct triggered when some students resisted internal disciplinary measures.

What began as a routine enforcement of school regulations, particularly repeated warnings against wearing unauthorised uniforms and using mobile phones, escalated after a group of students defied the rules and reacted aggressively to disciplinary action.

The situation quickly spiralled out of control. Several students vandalised school property, damaging six vehicles and smashing window panes at both the administration block and the multi-purpose hall.

Police officers arrived swiftly after receiving reports of the disturbance, restoring order and effecting the arrests.

DCOP Yiribaare also disclosed that police are investigating the school’s domestic bursar, after food items belonging to the institution were allegedly discovered in her possession.
