Four remanded for stealing foreign currencies

Cape Coast, Feb 18, GNA- A Cape Coast circuit court has remanded four people for stealing 5,000 dollars, 20 pounds sterling, 200 naira and three million cedis belonging to a Nigerian businessman resident in Cape Coast.

Antie Walla, a cleaner, was charged with unlawful entry and stealing while Lamin Mohammed and Kwamena Abeka were charged with stealing and Yusif Mohammed charged with dishonestly receiving. They all pleaded not guilty while a bench warrant has been issued for the arrest of the fifth accused person Alimatu Mohammed.

Chief Inspector Hope Azasoo, prosecuting, told the court that on November 19 last year Walla went to the house of the complainant, Lambert Umandi, to visit him and his fianc=E9e but she did not meet them.

She then broke into their room and stole the monies that were kept in a drawer.

Chief Inspector Azasoo said Walla took 600 dollars out of the money and handed the rest to Yusif for safekeeping. Lamin, Abeka and Alimatu later went to Yusif and told him that Walla had sent them to collect the money she gave to him and he handed it over to them.

Walla later went to Yusif to collect the money but was told Lamin, Abeka and Alimatu had come to collect it on her behalf. Walla and Yusif confronted Abeka and he returned 1,000 dollars, 20 pounds and 200 naira.
