Four die in an accident at Elmina

Elmina (C/R), April 17, GNA - Three persons, on Saturday died on the spot and one later in the hospital, when the vehicle in which they were travelling was involved in an accident on the Takoradi - Nyamoransa trunk road near Best Western Beach Resort at Elmina during a downpour.

Several others were seriously injured. Two of the dead have been identified as Mr Alex Oppong, a driver's mate from Takoradi and Mr Yaw Owusu of Kumasi. The injured have been admitted at the Central Regional and Cape Coast district hospitals.

According to an eyewitness account, the accident occurred when a tipper truck hit the side of a Benz bus, in which the deceased were travelling. The eyewitness said the tipper truck, which was travelling from the opposite direction, suddenly veered off its lane and run into the bus.

When GNA contacted the Police, Mr Adams Saaka, Assistant Superintendent of Police in charge of Elmina Police Station confirmed the story and said the bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the District Hospital mortuary.

He said the driver of the tipper truck, one Kourouma Ibrahima, a Guinean has been placed in Police custody pending investigations.
