Four More Years To Abolish Cash And Carry

An insurance expert says it will take more than four years to replace the Cash and carry system with the Health Insurance Scheme. Mr Philip Akanzinge, a Technical Adviser of the Mutual Health Insurance said the implementation of the mutual health scheme should be a gradual process, warning that it will fail if it is carried out in haste.

Mr Akanzinge who was speaking at the launch of the Berekum District Health Insurance Scheme noted that the Brong Ahafo region has taken the lead in the implementation of the scheme in five districts in the region.

Preparations are far advanced to implement the scheme in five other districts including the regional capital, Sunyani. The deputy Local Government and Rural Development Minister and MP for Berekum, Captain Nkrabea Effah Dartey said government has not been able to abolish the cash and carry system due to the huge cost involved.
