Former Tribunal Chairman appeals for clemency for Sekyi Hughes

Accra, June 16, GNA- A former Public Tribunal Chairman, on Tuesday appealed to President John Evans Atta Mills to exercise his prerogative powers to prevent the trial of the former Speaker of Parliament, Mr Begyina Sekyi Hughes for any wrong doing.

Nana Addo-Aikins, who made the appeal in a press statement he issued in Accra and copied to the Ghana News Agency, said the invitation of the former Speaker by the Police Criminal Investigations Department, in connection with the removal of soft furnishing from his official residence, was enough grounds for his prosecution.

He said the President should consider the age and the commendable service Mr Sekyi Hughes had rendered to the nation. Nana Aikins said the embarrassment and humiliation the former Speaker had suffered about his action was enough punishment to justify a call for clemency. He said taking Mr Sekyi Hughes to court would only amount to flogging a dead horse.
