Former SIC MD trends as netizens express shock over her ‘big’ entitlements

The immediate past Managing Director of State Insurance Company Limited (SIC), Hollistar Duah-Yentumi, has come under scrutiny following what they say are her unrealistic and shocking demands in a lawsuit filed against the company and her successor, James Agyenim-Boateng.

Her decision to reportedly refuse to hand over, lock the offices of the MD at SIC where the newly-appointed MD was supposed to operate, and flee with the office keys, along with the demands stated in the lawsuit, has caused her to trend on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, February 6, 2025.

Duah-Yentumi accused the company of wrongfully terminating her contract.

According to her, her appointment as managing director was supposed to last until January 1, 2028.

Her demands, including a GH₵840,000 annual salary, SSNIT contributions, GH₵200,000 for official accommodation, 10% of her salary for a clothing allowance, entertainment allowance, canteen allowance, professional allowance, payment of utilities and other taxes, as well as provisions for her house help, security, and gardener, have sparked massive conversations and discussions among Ghanaian netizens.

Critics have expressed shock over the flamboyant emoluments being paid to appointees of state institutions, especially at a time when the country is grappling with financial and economic challenges.

They have also criticised her for opposing her removal from office, considering that she was appointed under the former Akufo-Addo government, and a new government has since assumed power.
