Bernard Nii Martei Korley, a former parliamentary aspirant of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the Ledzokuku Constituency, has launched the Akro Heritage Fund, a community-centered initiative designed to support and safeguard the welfare of Teshie’s traditional custodians.
The historic event took place at the forecourt of his office near Kiddie Care School in the Ledzokuku Constituency on October 1, 2025 and drew together revered traditional leaders including the Asafoatsemei, Asafoatseyeii, Wulomei and Woyeii.
Dressed in regal cultural attire, their presence highlighted the cultural significance of the ceremony and reaffirmed their role as guardians of Teshie’s traditions and values.
To demonstrate his commitment, Korley seeded the fund with GH¢10,000 and further presented GH¢1,000 each to the various groups to support their transportation.
He also pledged to make monthly contributions to ensure the sustainability and growth of the fund.

In his address, he emphasised that the Akro Heritage Fund goes beyond being a financial intervention.
He described it as a covenant to “honour the past, safeguard the present and fortify the future” of Teshie’s heritage.
According to him, the initiative seeks to dignify traditional leaders, empower their work and preserve the community’s identity for generations to come.
The event was also graced by the Teshie District Police Commander, Superintendent Adotey, alongside community members who expressed appreciation for the initiative.
The launch was not only marked by symbolic donations but also by a renewed call for solidarity, cultural preservation and collective responsibility.
For many, it will be remembered as the day when tradition and progress converged lifting high the torch of heritage for the future of Teshie.
