Former Asante Kotoko and Medeama Sporting Club forward Francis Andy Kumi has emerged vindicated after a protracted and emotionally charged paternity dispute that gripped social media and spilled into the courtroom.

The Young Apostles striker, who has also featured for Bechem United FC, Kotoku Royals and Serbian side FK Radnički Niš, found himself at the centre of a deeply personal legal battle at the Ashaiman District Court in late 2025.

At stake was not just his reputation, but the truth surrounding the paternity of a 10-year-old girl after his ex-girlfriend, Sekina Hammond, publicly questioned whether he was the biological father.

The case began on October 7, 2025, when the court ordered Sekina to produce the child for a DNA test. In a dramatic twist, she initially sent the child to her mother’s village in what the court later viewed as an attempt to delay proceedings. After weeks of tension and mounting public scrutiny, the DNA test was finally conducted.

Three hearings followed, culminating on January 20, 2026 — a day that would redefine the narrative. The results were unequivocal: Francis Andy Kumi was not the biological father.

The ruling cleared the striker’s name and brought an emphatic end to months of speculation, online commentary and reputational damage fuelled by a viral social media video. The court did not mince words, condemning Sekina’s conduct as unacceptable and imposing a fine of GH¢24,200 for the harm caused.

The emotional weight of the case was amplified by the history between the two. Kumi and Sekina began dating in Senior High School and maintained their relationship after graduation. She was his first love — a relationship that, according to close sources, left the footballer heartbroken long before the courtroom saga began.

Now, with the truth legally established, the striker can focus on his career resurgence. After returning from Serbia, he signed with Medeama Sporting Club ahead of the 2024/25 season, continuing a domestic journey that once earned him a call-up to the Ghana national football team in 2021.

Beyond the individual relief for Kumi, the case has sparked broader conversations about accountability in sensitive family matters. Legal experts note that while paternity disputes are not uncommon, the reputational consequences — particularly in the age of viral media — can be severe and, at times, irreversible.
